The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a petition seeking registration of a criminal case against Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
The plea accused Maurya of submitting fake educational certificates during elections and while acquiring a petrol pump dealership.
The petition was filed by social activist Diwakar Nath Tripathi from Prayagraj, who sought a court directive for a police probe under charges of cheating and forgery.
However, Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh rejected the plea, stating that Tripathi had no legal standing to file the petition as he was not directly affected by the alleged offence.
The court further observed, “The wheels of the criminal justice system cannot be permitted to be clogged by frivolous complaints where the complainant himself is not aggrieved or victim in any manner.”
The court also noted that the petition appeared to be motivated by malice or an attempt to settle personal scores.
Tripathi’s application was earlier dismissed by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Prayagraj in 2021 for lack of evidence. Although Tripathi challenged this dismissal, the high court initially rejected his petition due to delay. The Supreme Court later directed the high court to consider the matter on its merits.
After reviewing the case, the high court upheld the dismissal, effectively closing the matter for now.
