Forgery Case: Allahabad HC Grants Bail To Mukhtar Ansari’s Son

The Allahabad High Court on Friday granted bail to Umar Ansari, son of the late mafia leader Mukhtar Ansari, in a case registered under the Gangsters Act.

Umar had been in judicial custody since his arrest on August 3.

Case Background

The case revolves around allegations that Umar Ansari used forged documents to reclaim a property that had been attached under the Gangsters Act. According to police, Umar allegedly tried to repossess the confiscated land by preparing fake papers carrying his mother Afshan Ansari’s forged signature.

The disputed property is located in Vallabh Devdhi Das Mohalla, under the Sadar Kotwali area. It had earlier been attached by the District Magistrate as part of proceedings under the Gangsters Act.

Court Proceedings

A bench of Justice Dr. Gautam Chaudhary passed the bail order after hearing detailed submissions from both Umar’s legal team and the prosecution. The court’s decision comes after his earlier bail application was rejected by the Additional District Judge (ADJ) Court in Ghazipur on August 21.

Following the rejection, Umar moved the High Court, which has now cleared the way for his release while the trial continues.

Police Allegations

According to the FIR lodged at Mohammadabad police station in Ghazipur, Umar Ansari attempted to use fabricated documents to seek release of the attached land. Investigators claimed that the signatures on the papers did not match Afshan Ansari’s original handwriting, pointing to forgery.

Additionally, police alleged that a power of attorney was filed using the same forged signature, further strengthening the case of fabrication.

Arrest & Custody

Umar Ansari was arrested in Lucknow on August 3 and initially lodged in Ghazipur jail. On August 23, he was shifted to Pachlana Jail in Kasganj. He has remained in custody since then.

Meanwhile, his mother Afshan Ansari, who is also accused in the case, has been absconding. Authorities have announced a reward of ₹50,000 for any information leading to her arrest.
