BS Yediyurappa, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, has been accused under the POCSO Act. He attended a CID hearing recently after a court issued a non-bailable warrant against him, which was subsequently revoked by a directive from the High Court.
Following allegations of sexual harassment by a minor’s mother, BS Yediyurappa faced a formal complaint filed on March 3, 2024, at Sadashivanagar police station. Initially handled by local police, the Karnataka government later transferred the case to the CID for thorough investigation. Despite being summoned twice for questioning by CID officers, BS Yediyurappa did not comply with the initial notices. Consequently, a fast-track court issued an arrest warrant against him, later upgraded to a non-bailable warrant.
BS Yediyurappa successfully averted arrest by petitioning the Karnataka High Court to cancel the arrest and anticipatory bail warrants. The High Court’s decision was pivotal, as it granted him interim relief from arrest pending further proceedings. This legal protection enabled him to appear before the CID for questioning without the immediate threat of detention. Before heading to the CID office, Yeddyurappa addressed the media on various issues, including the rising prices of essential commodities like petrol and diesel. He urged the Karnataka government to reconsider its decision to hike prices, which he deemed harmful to the people of the state. Throughout this ordeal, BS Yediyurappa has consistently maintained his innocence. His legal team continues to challenge the credibility of the allegations and the proceedings in the POCSO Special Court.
