Gujarat HC Expands Hybrid Court Proceedings to All Courtrooms and Benches

In a significant development, the Gujarat High Court has expanded its hybrid system of court proceedings to encompass all its courtrooms and benches. This expansion allows for both physical attendance and participation through virtual means or video conference mode during court proceedings in the Gujarat High Court.

The hybrid system was initially introduced as a ‘pilot project’ for four division benches of the High Court in June 2023. Based on the success of this initiative, it is now being extended to include all courtrooms within the High Court.

As per a notification issued by the Registrar General, this comprehensive hybrid mode of operation for all High Court courtrooms is set to commence from today i.e., September 29.

“The present pilot implementation exercise of the hybrid mode of hearing cases for the four division benches of the High Court has been successful and has been running smoothly for a few months. Considering this, and in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court of India, the ongoing pilot implementation exercise of hybrid case hearings will now be a regular practice for all remaining division benches, Single-Judge benches, and Larger benches constituted from time to time at the High Court of Gujarat, starting with the Cause-list for September 29, 2023,” the notification reads.

To utilize the hybrid system, advocates and parties-in-person will be required to submit their requests online through a designated link available on the High Court’s website.
