Gujarat HC Introduces Neutral Citation System

Gujarat HC

The Gujarat High Court has recently introduced Neutral Citation for all Judgments and Final Orders issued by the court.

A circular has been issued to inform that Neutral Citations have been assigned to all the Judgments and Final Orders uploaded on the Case Status website of the High Court of Gujarat.

Each of these documents will now have a Neutral Citation with a QR Code printed on every page when downloaded from the court’s website. The circular includes a sample of the Neutral Citation with a QR Code for reference.

The QR Codes will contain a web-link to the soft copy of the specific Order or Judgment. By scanning the QR Code with any device, users can directly access the PDF file of the document. Once the Neutral Citation is generated, an email will be sent by the IT Cell server to the respective Advocates and subscribers of EMCS for the relevant case.

The email will include the Order or Judgment attached with the Neutral Citation. Physical and e-Certified Copies of the document will also display the Neutral Citation on each page of the Final Order or Judgment.

Furthermore, the Case Status search result page will now display the Neutral Citation at the top, including the Neutral Citation against the Final Order or Judgment in the list of orders shown. Additionally, the Case Status website of the High Court of Gujarat provides comprehensive search functionality based on the Neutral Citation, allowing users to easily search for specific Final Orders or Judgments.

An Advanced Search option is also available based on Year, Month, and Case Type, enabling users to search for multiple cases assigned a Neutral Citation during a particular period within a specific Case Type.

This initiative aims to enhance convenience and promote uniform referencing to the Judgments and Final Orders of the High Court of Gujarat. The availability of a readily accessible Neutral Citation repository on the court’s website will facilitate easy and free access to these documents.
