The Gujarat High Court issued notices on Monday (August 5) regarding a plea filed by a Surat-based gaming zone challenging the closure notice issued by civic authorities.
This notice followed the May 25 fire at a similar facility in Rajkot, which resulted in 27 fatalities.
In response to the May 25 fire at Rajkot’s TRP game zone, state authorities had ordered the closure of all gaming zones. The Court’s order on May 27 stipulated that these closures would remain in effect until further notice.
The petitioner, Lets Jump Trampoline and Adventure Pvt Ltd of Surat, informed Justice Sangeeta Vishen that their facility was sealed by authorities despite having all necessary permissions.
Through its counsel, Amit Thakkar, the petitioner argued that the closure notice cited irregularities based on flimsy grounds and did not provide an opportunity for defense. The petitioner reported significant financial losses and an abrupt halt in operations, leading them to seek a modification of the High Court’s order. While their civil application was rejected on July 4, they were allowed to contest the closure independently.
