HC Directs SP W. Singhbhum to lodge an FIR against Police Personnel

Murder

The Jharkhand High Court directed the state police to register an FIR against its personnel for reportedly assaulting the relatives of Bajrang Dal leader Kamaldev Giri, who was tragically murdered in Chakradharpur last year.

During a hearing of a criminal writ petition, a bench of Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi directed the Superintendent of Police (SP) of West Singhbhum to ensure the registration of a case against the police personnel alleged to have beaten Giri’s grieving relatives during a demonstration.

Kamaldev Giri lost his life in November of the previous year when crude bombs were thrown at him. In response, his supporters and family members initiated a protest, demanding immediate police action.

The family of Giri has asserted that the police resorted to the use of force to disperse the demonstration and physically assaulted them. They had sought to file an FIR against the involved police personnel, but their request was not accepted.

In light of this, they decided to approach the high court, seeking an order to compel the police to register an FIR in this matter.
