The Bombay High Court on Wednesday adjourned until June 25 the hearing on a petition filed by Turkish company Celebi against the termination of its contract by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL).
The adjournment was granted after both parties mutually agreed to seek a postponement.
Contract Cancelled After Security Clearance Revoked
The legal dispute stems from recent tensions between India and Turkiye. Earlier this month, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS)—India’s aviation security regulator—revoked Celebi Airport Services India’s security clearance, citing concerns related to national security.
This action came in the wake of widespread criticism in India over Turkiye’s vocal support of Pakistan during India’s military operation “Operation Sindoor.” Following the revocation, MIAL terminated its contract with Celebi, prompting the Turkish firm to challenge the decision in court.
Celebi Moves Court Against ‘Arbitrary’ Action
Celebi Nas Airport Services India, which managed ground handling operations at Mumbai airport, has filed three separate petitions in the Bombay High Court. The company contends that the security clearance revocation and contract termination were “arbitrary and illegal.”
Celebi, the Turkish parent company, holds a 59% stake in Celebi Nas Airport Services India.
The next hearing on the matter is now scheduled for June 25, when the court will take up the merits of the case. For now, Celebi’s legal challenge highlights a complex intersection of diplomatic tensions and commercial operations in India’s aviation sector.
