The Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to the state police, seeking a status report on a complaint filed by a Palampur-based businessman, alleging threats to his life and property.
Nishant Sharma, in his complaint to the Shimla Superintendent of Police, highlighted concerns about an impending threat to himself, his family, and property from his partners. He cited a “brutal attack” in Haryana’s Gurugram on August 25, pointing to two influential persons from Himachal Pradesh, including a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, identified in the CCTV footage of the incident.
“I came to Palampur in Kangra district after the attack, but the DGP called me from his official number and forced me to come to Shimla, and on the same day, two criminals stopped me at McLeodganj in Dharamshala and threatened to harm my two-and-a-half-year-old kid and wife,” the businessman has alleged.
Shimla SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi confirmed receiving a communication from the court to submit a status report by November 16. Sharma claimed he reached out to the Superintendent of Police in Kangra at Dharamshala but asserted no action has been taken.
Addressing the media, Sharma demanded an unbiased investigation and the filing of an FIR against those involved, including the DGP, to address the situation.
Earlier, a case of defamation was registered against Sharma based on a complaint from DGP Sanjay Kundu for allegedly damaging his reputation and attempting to malign his image. Sections under the Indian Penal Code, including false charges, forgery, and defamation, were invoked against the businessman.
The DGP maintained that Sharma’s allegations were false and intended to harm reputations, leading to a criminal complaint and plans for a civil defamation suit. He clarified that no actionable offense was found in the businessman’s complaint about the Gurugram attack.
The DGP had noted communications with Sharma due to suspicions of wrongdoing and highlighted that the Gurugram Police didn’t find any substantial offense in the attack complaint.
