Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal has approached the Bombay High Court to request an extension of the two-month interim medical bail that was previously granted to him.
On May 6, the high court granted interim bail for two months on medical grounds to Naresh Goyal, who was arrested in a money laundering case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Now, Goyal has filed an application seeking an extension of the same. The plea stated that his medical condition continues to remain poor and that he also lost his wife to cancer on May 16.
The application was heard by a single bench of Justice Manish Pitale. The court referred to a circular issued by the high court in February, which stated that applications where earlier pleas were considered and decided by a particular judge should be placed before the same bench.
Justice Pitale directed the high court’s registry department to place Goyal’s application before the single bench of Justice N.J. Jamadar, who had granted him interim bail in May for two months.
Goyal’s counsels, Aabad Ponda and Ameet Naik, mentioned that they would present the plea before Justice Jamadar on Wednesday.
Naresh Goyal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in September 2023 on allegations of laundering money and siphoning off loans amounting to Rs 538.62 crore given to Jet Airways by Canara Bank. In November last year, his wife, Anita Goyal, was also arrested when the ED submitted its chargesheet in the case. She was granted bail by the special court on the same day, considering her age and medical condition. Unfortunately, she passed away on May 16, 2024.
