Jharkhand HC Directs State Govt To Report On Facilities For Differently Abled In Courts

Differently abled

The Jharkhand High Court recently passed a directive to the state government, seeking information regarding the availability of facilities for differently abled individuals in courts throughout the state.

A division bench of Chief Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra and Justice Ananda Sen directed the state government to provide a report in the form of an affidavit on this matter.

The bench was considering a public interest litigation (PIL) petition that alleged a lack of facilities for differently abled individuals in various courts across the state.

The matter is scheduled for further consideration on 11th August, 2023.

The division bench asked about the measures undertaken by the state government to ensure a comfortable environment for differently abled litigants within court premises.

The People’s Union for Civil Liberties, the petitioner here, emphasized the necessity of ramps, lifts, washrooms, and adequate seating areas for differently abled individuals in courts.

The petitioner further asserted that the absence of these facilities hinders litigants with disabilities from effectively participating in their cases.
