Jharkhand HC Dismisses Ex-CM Hemant Soren’s Plea Seeking to Attend Budget Session

The Jharkhand High Court has dismissed former chief minister Hemant Soren’s plea seeking permission to attend the ongoing budget session of the assembly.

The session commenced on February 23 and is scheduled to conclude on March 2, 2024.

Soren, who was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case last month, had filed an application before the high court on 23rd February, seeking permission to participate in the budget session.

Following the arguments, Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad reserved his order on Monday.

Earlier, the court had granted Soren, the executive president of the ruling JMM, authorization to partake in the assembly’s trust vote on February 5.

Another petition filed by Soren, challenging his apprehension by the ED, saw the high court reserving its verdict.

The case was heard by a division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Navneet Kumar.

Soren was remanded to the Birsa Munda Central Jail on February 15 after his 13-day custody by the ED.
