Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad Sworn In As Judge Of Orissa HC

Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad was formally sworn in as a judge of the Orissa High Court on Monday. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Harish Tandon during a ceremony held at the court premises.

Justice Shripad’s transfer from the Karnataka High Court was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium and officially notified by the central government on May 1, 2025. With his induction, he becomes the fourth senior-most judge of the Orissa High Court and is expected to serve until his retirement on July 19, 2026.

Having enrolled as an advocate in July 1989, Justice Shripad has had a distinguished legal career, practicing primarily in the Karnataka and Madras High Courts. His areas of specialization include writ petitions, election laws, and service laws. He has represented various institutions, including the Election Commission of India, University Grants Commission, Competition Commission of India, and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. In 2014, he was appointed as the Assistant Solicitor General, a position he held until his elevation to the Karnataka High Court bench on February 14, 2018.

Justice Shripad has been involved in several significant judgments, notably the 2022 verdict on the hijab ban in Karnataka. At the Orissa High Court, he will initially serve on a division bench alongside Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra, the court’s third senior-most judge.
