Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva officially took oath as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday.

The ceremony took place at the Raj Bhawan in Bhopal, where Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel administered the oath of office.

From Acting To Full-Time Chief Justice

Justice Sachdeva had been serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court since May 2025. His formal appointment as the 29th Chief Justice of the High Court was announced through a notification read out by the State’s Chief Secretary. The notification, issued by President Droupadi Murmu, confirmed his elevation to the top judicial post in the state.

Legal Journey & Academic Background

Born in Delhi on December 26, 1964, Justice Sachdeva has had a distinguished academic and professional journey. He graduated in Commerce (Honours) from the Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Delhi, in 1985. He later pursued his legal education at the Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1988.

Immediately after completing his law degree, he enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi on August 1, 1988, marking the beginning of his legal career.

Steady Rise In The Judiciary

Over the years, Justice Sachdeva has built a solid reputation in legal circles through his expertise, integrity, and balanced judgments. His journey from practicing lawyer to Acting Chief Justice, and now Chief Justice, reflects his deep commitment to upholding the rule of law and delivering justice.

With this new role, he assumes responsibility for guiding the Madhya Pradesh High Court at a time of increasing caseloads and growing expectations from the judiciary.
