Madras HC Approves Burial of Slain BSP President K Armstrong in Tiruvallur District

K Armstrong

The Madras High Court convened a special session on Sunday to address a plea from the wife of the deceased Tamil Nadu BSP president, K Armstrong, requesting to bury his body at the party office. The court permitted the burial to take place in the neighbouring Tiruvallur district instead.

The government opposed the plea, citing that the party office was situated in a residential area.

Armstrong the head of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), was brutally murdered by a group of assailants on Friday. His wife approached the High Court seeking permission to bury him at the party office. The case was heard by Justice V Bhavani Subbaroyan.

The government argued against the plea, highlighting the residential nature of the area and suggesting three alternative sites for the burial.

Additional Advocate General J Ravindran later informed the judge that the government had sanctioned the burial on a piece of land owned by Armstrong’s relative in Pothur, Tiruvallur district, and had issued the necessary orders for the process.

The petitioner agreed to this proposal, leading the judge to direct that Armstrong’s body be buried at Pothur. The judge also instructed the petitioner to conduct a peaceful funeral procession and ordered the police to provide protection.
