Maha Govt Declares ₹20,000 Post-Retirement Allowance for HC Judges

The Maharashtra government has taken a commendable step by announcing the provision of post-retirement benefits and allowances for judges of the Bombay High Court.

This move aims to acknowledge and support the dedicated service rendered by the judiciary. The benefits will extend to both retired Chief Justices and judges, as well as their surviving spouses.

To ensure a comfortable post-retirement life, the state government will provide specific allowances. These allowances encompass expenses related to housekeeping, chauffeur services, and telephone usage. Retired judges will receive an allowance of ₹14,000, which can be utilized for hiring domestic help and a chauffeur. Additionally, a sum of ₹6,000 will be allocated for telephone expenses.

It is important to note that these allowances are supplementary to the retirement benefits already granted by the Union Law Ministry. These benefits include a pension amount, leave encashment, and death-cum-retirement gratuity.

By introducing these post-retirement benefits, the Maharashtra government demonstrates its commitment to the welfare of judges who have dedicated their careers to upholding justice. This initiative recognizes the valuable contributions made by the judiciary and strives to provide them with financial support and assistance in their retired lives.

Overall, this decision highlights the government’s understanding of the significant role played by judges and emphasizes the importance of ensuring their well-being even after their active service on the bench.
