MM Kalburgi Murder Case: K’taka HC Grants Bail to Two Accused Individuals

The Karnataka High Court granted bail on Tuesday to two individuals involved in the murder case of scholar MM Kalburgi.

A single bench of Justice MG Uma approved bail for Vasudev Bhagwan Suryavanshi and Amit Baddi, who are accused of stealing the motorcycle used by the shooter in Kalburgi’s murder.

The High Court observed that the original theft case had already been resolved years ago, and only 10 out of 138 witnesses had been examined in the current case.

“The prosecution cannot provide a clear timeline for when the trial will conclude. Apart from the theft charge, there is no prima facie evidence on record linking them to the murder case,” the judge stated.

Kalburgi was killed in Dharwad by two assailants who escaped the crime scene on a motorcycle on August 30, 2015. Both defendants are also implicated in the murders of Gauri Lankesh and rationalist Govind Pansare.
