The Patna High Court has annulled an FIR filed against Sanjiv Hans, a senior IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, who was accused of rape. Justice Sandeep Kumar issued the order in response to Hans’ petition challenging the FIR that was registered at Rupaspur police station last year.
The complainant, a lawyer from Aurangabad district practicing at the Allahabad High Court, claimed she was raped by Hans and Gulab Yadav, a former RJD MLA. Recently, the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at the properties of Hans and Yadav in connection with a money laundering investigation. As a result, Hans was removed from his significant position in the power department, and Yadav remains politically sidelined.
The woman alleged that she was sexually exploited by Hans and Yadav under the pretense of receiving assistance to join the State Women’s Commission. However, the court found that “no offence is made against the petitioner” and that the “story propounded by the complainant” in her delayed FIR appeared to be “false and fabricated.”
