Poll Code Violation Case: Jharkhand HC Asks State to Begin Arguments in Soren’s Plea

The Jharkhand High Court has asked the state government to begin its arguments in Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s petition, which challenges the ongoing proceedings related to an alleged violation of the model code of conduct.
The court has set the date for the commencement of the state government’s arguments on October 17.
Soren has filed this petition in response to the proceedings pending against him in a Jamshedpur court, stemming from a case registered at the Adityapur police station in 2014. The allegations against him involve a violation of the model code of conduct during his campaign for the candidate of his party, the JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha).
Notably, the high court had previously, in 2022, quashed a similar case against Soren. In that instance, he was accused of wearing a sash bearing the JMM logo while heading to cast his vote during the 2019 assembly elections.
