A petition has been filed in the Calcutta High Court, requesting that the police ensure the protection of opposition party workers in the aftermath of alleged post-poll violence in some areas of West Bengal following the Lok Sabha elections.
A vacation bench of the high court granted the petitioner leave to file the plea and stated that the case could be heard later in the day.
The petitioner claimed before the division bench of Justices Kausik Chanda and Apurba Sinha Roy that post-poll violence was taking place in some parts of the state following the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections.
The High Court ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate allegations of post-poll violence in West Bengal following the 2021 assembly elections.
