Prioritize Swift Trials and Expedite the Process of Justice- Says President

President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu called upon legal professionals to prioritize swift trials and expedite the process of justice. She emphasized that this approach can prevent the unjust incarceration of innocent individuals on minor charges.

During her speech at the 75th-year celebrations of the High Court of Orissa in Cuttack, President Murmu highlighted the unfortunate cases of people being imprisoned for longer periods than the prescribed punishment for their alleged crimes. This leads to the loss of crucial years of innocent lives, while victims lose hope of seeing the guilty face legal consequences. Urging all involved with the High Court of Orissa to set an example for the nation, she emphasized the significance of prompt and efficient justice delivery.

The President underscored the importance of delivering justice to socially and economically underprivileged sections of society, who often lack the knowledge and resources to access the legal system. She stressed the need for contemplation on how to ensure justice for these marginalized groups.

President Murmu praised the legal profession in India for earning the trust and respect of citizens, serving as a vital pillar of the world’s largest democracy.

Before delving into the High Court of Orissa’s achievements and luminaries, the President paid tribute to the brave soldiers, including those from Odisha, who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil War. Their valor remains an inspiration for the nation.

Discussing the 75th-year celebrations of the High Court of Orissa, the President lauded the court’s adherence to high standards and its integration of technological advancements in the justice delivery system. She acknowledged the efforts made to streamline and accelerate justice through modern and innovative changes.

Finally, President Murmu emphasized the need for the Judiciary, along with the Executive and Legislature, to prioritize environmental and wildlife protection, especially in the face of natural calamities that challenge humanity.
