Punjab and Haryana HC Orders Police Protection for Businessman Citing Threats from BJP MP Kirron Kher

Kirron Kher

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Chandigarh Police to offer protection to a businessman and his family for one week after he filed a petition citing threats from BJP MP Kirron Kher and her associate.

Chaittnya Aggarwal, represented by senior advocate Anmol Rattan Sidhu, filed the petition expressing concerns about potential harm to his life and his family from the Chandigarh MP.

The petitioner claimed that there were financial disputes between him and the respondents, possibly causing the perceived threat. He disclosed his association with Kher’s aide Sahdev Salaria through a BJP worker.

Aggarwal asserted that Kher provided him with Rs 8 crore for investment, and he had already returned Rs 2 crore. Due to market fluctuations, he requested time to generate profits and repay the remaining amount, as per the plea.

The petitioner alleged constant harassment and threats from Kher and her aide to promptly return the money with interest. However, public prosecutor Manish Bansal informed the court that no police station had received any complaint regarding the threats.

He mentioned the availability of the helpline number 112 for reporting such matters, which the petitioner and his family had not utilized. Sidhu, the petitioner’s counsel, argued that given the respondent’s profile (Kher), approaching the court directly should not be a reason to deny protection to their life and liberty.

In the recent order, the court, without commenting on the merits of the case, directed the concerned Superintendent of Police and the concerned SHO to provide appropriate protection to the petitioner for one week.

The court specified conditions, including restricting the petitioner and his wife from going outside their residence boundaries except for essential activities, and imposed measures to ensure the protection is not misused.

The court clarified that any violation of the conditions would automatically recall the protection order.
