The Punjab and Haryana High Court has instructed the Directorate of Enforcement and police to arrest Congress MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker if he doesn’t surrender within 24 hours.
Chhoker is embroiled in a money laundering case initiated by the ED in 2023. A close aide of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, he is seeking re-election from the Samalkha constituency in the upcoming state assembly elections.
Haryana Advocate General Baldev Raj Mahajan revealed that a petition for action against Chhoker was filed in the High Court that day. He stated, “Dharam Singh Chhoker is a sitting MLA from Samalkha and is contesting elections from there again. He has numerous criminal cases against him, with non-bailable warrants issued, and pending ED action. His anticipatory bail petition has been rejected, yet no action has been taken against him while he openly contests elections.”
The court emphasized that Chhoker must surrender or face arrest, noting the rejection of his bail and the need for action.
Voting for all 90 Assembly constituencies in Haryana is scheduled for October 5, from 7 am to 6 pm.
In 2023, the ED investigated Chhoker and his son, Sikandar Singh Chhoker, following an FIR by Gurugram police that alleged their involvement in real estate fraud.
Sikandar was arrested by the ED in March 2024 for allegedly siphoning hundreds of crores and defrauding home buyers through fake construction expenditures in group entities.
