The Rajasthan High Court has sought a hospital report regarding the ayurvedic treatment sought by incarcerated self-proclaimed godman Asaram Bapu. During a hearing on a petition filed by Asaram seeking permission for ayurvedic treatment at Madhavbaug Hospital in Pune, Maharashtra, a bench comprising Justices Vinit Mathur and Dinesh Mehta has sought details concerning the treatment and the duration required. They instructed Asaram’s lawyer to procure the details from the hospital and present them to the court before the next hearing scheduled for March 20, 2024.
Furthermore, the court has directed the government lawyer to inquire from the police commissioners of Jodhpur and Mumbai regarding the necessity of police personnel for his travel to and stay in Pune, and to furnish updates to the court accordingly.
Asaram was convicted by a Jodhpur court in a rape case and was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2018.
