Rajasthan HC Takes Stern Action Against Drug Menace, Issues Notices to Both Centre & State

Drug Menace

In response to the escalating issue of the drug menace, the Rajasthan High Court took suo moto cognizance and issued notices to both the central and state governments.

The court sought affidavits detailing the existing mechanisms aimed at controlling the “unregulated” production of tablets and syrups containing psychotropic substances.

Furthermore, the court requested information on any mechanisms currently in place to regulate the distribution of these tablets and syrups to dealers, distributors, and retail pharmacists.

This matter was raised during a bail application hearing on Saturday, during which Justice Farjand Ali observed a commercial quantity of medicinal drugs allegedly seized from the petitioner.

Justice Farjand Ali expressed deep concern regarding the extensive sale and consumption of tablets, medicinal drugs, and syrups containing psychotropic substances.

The court raised questions about the unregulated operations of city drugstores and emphasized the need to identify sources involved in illegal distribution.

Additionally, the court highlighted that despite arrests and detention of drugstore employees and owners, there has been a lack of constructive investigations leading to the origin of the trade.

The Judge scheduled the matter for a hearing on January 22 and directed officials to establish a transparent platform for the upload of prescriptions issued by doctors.
