Rajasthan High Court
The Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan High Court on Monday extended the interim bail granted to self-styled godman Asaram, who is serving a life sentence for the rape of a minor disciple at his gurukul.
The extension, valid until August 29, comes just before his earlier bail period was due to expire on August 12.
A division bench of Justices Dinesh Mehta and Vineet Kumar Mathur granted the extension after reviewing Asaram’s latest medical reports. Currently hospitalised in Indore, his condition has been described as critical.
The Rajasthan High Court’s decision follows a recent order by the Gujarat High Court, which extended his interim bail in a separate but similar case until August 21.
Taking note of his health status, the court directed the creation of a medical panel from a government hospital in Ahmedabad to conduct a thorough examination.
The panel must include both a cardiologist and a neurologist. Their report is to be submitted to the court by August 27, just two days before his current bail term ends.
