Rameshwaram Cafe Blast: Madras HC Dismisses Case Against Shobha Karandlaje Following Apology

The Madras High Court has dismissed a criminal case against Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje related to her comments about the Rameshwaram Cafe blast in Bengaluru.

This decision came after Karandlaje issued an apology for her remarks and the Tamil Nadu government chose not to pursue the case further.

Justice G Jayachandran’s ruling followed the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to accept Karandlaje’s apology affidavit. The government indicated it no longer wished to continue with the case.

Karandlaje’s comments linking Tamil Nadu to the March 1 blast, which injured about 10 people, led to the case being filed against her by the Madurai police. In her affidavit, Karandlaje clarified that her statements were not intended to offend the people of Tamil Nadu. She had previously retracted her comments and apologized publicly through social media.

“I have the highest respect for Tamil Nadu’s history, culture, and people,” Karandlaje stated. “I had no intention to hurt anyone’s sentiments and sincerely apologize for any offense caused by my remarks.”
