The Calcutta High Court adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by Gangadhar Koyal, a BJP leader of Sandeshkhali, seeking transfer of investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into an alleged sting video over accusations of sexual atrocities.
A single bench of Justice Jay Sengupta stated that the petition by Koyal will be addressed on Tuesday.
In his petition, Koyal asserted that technology-aided videos mimicking his voice were being circulated in an attempt to defame him.
The BJP leader also claimed that such videos were causing tension in Sandeshkhali and expressed apprehension regarding a threat to his safety, seeking an order from the court for granting him central force security.
Recently, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal shared a video of an alleged sting operation featuring the BJP leader.
In the alleged video, a man bearing resemblance to Koyal purportedly asserted that the sexual abuse allegations in Sandeshkhali were “staged”. Koyal further asserted having already met with CBI officials regarding the purported use of his counterfeit voice.
The CBI continues its investigation into the alleged sexual atrocities and land-grabbing incidents in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas, pursuant to a prior directive from the Calcutta High Court.
