Second Chance? Bombay HC Grants Temporary Bail to Murder Convict for LLB Entrance Exam

LLB Entrance Exam

The Bombay High Court recently granted temporary bail to a murder convict, serving a life sentence, to enable him to appear for the LLB entrance examination scheduled for May 30.

Court’s Observations

A division bench comprising Justices NR Borkar and Somasekhar Sundaresan noted that the convict has been in jail for nine years and had not misused bail liberty in the past.

“It appears that the Applicant has been in jail for about nine years. It further appears that during the trial he was on bail for some period and did not misuse the liberty granted to him,” the order read.

In December 2021, the Dindoshi Sessions Court sentenced Sohail Salim Ansair, the applicant, to life imprisonment for the offence of murder punishable under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Request for Bail

Ansair requested temporary bail for a week to appear for the entrance examination and produced the admit card to support his prayer.

The applicant was released on a cash bail of ₹15,000 after the Court took into account his past conduct.
