Sexual Abuse Case: Blr Court Grants JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna Conditional Bail

Suraj Revanna

The Bengaluru court on Monday has granted JD(S) MLC Suraj Revanna conditional bail in a sexual abuse case. Revanna had been arrested by Hassan police last month on allegations of sexually assaulting a 27-year-old JD(S) worker.

Following the arrest, the State government transferred the case to the CID for further investigation.

Revanna faces charges under IPC sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (criminal conspiracy). The complaint claims that Revanna, the eldest son of Holenarasipura MLA H.D. Revanna and brother of former MP Prajwal Revanna, sexually abused the victim at his Ghannikada farmhouse on June 16.

Suraj Revanna, who is also the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and nephew of Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, has denied the allegations. He argued that the JD(S) worker’s complaint was a false attempt to extort Rs 5 crore from him. In response, the police have filed a counter-complaint for extortion against the worker.

The court imposed several conditions on Suraj’s bail:
– He must not intimidate or interfere with witnesses, the complainant, or the victim.
– He must cooperate with the investigation, appearing before the investigating officer as required.
– He is to surrender his passport and not leave the state without court permission.
– He must not contact the victim, directly or indirectly.
– He is required to appear before the investigating officer on the second Sunday of each month and mark his attendance between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for six months or until the charge sheet is filed, whichever comes first.
– He must not engage in similar offenses.

Suraj was directed to post a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh with 2 sureties to the satisfaction of the court.

Additionally, Suraj’s father was previously arrested for allegedly kidnapping a victim of Prajwal Revanna to prevent her from testifying against the former MP and is currently out on bail. Suraj’s mother, Bhavani Revanna, has secured anticipatory bail in the same case.
