Shilpa Shetty, Businessman-Husband Kundra Move Bombay HC Seeking Nod To Travel Abroad, Suspend LOC

Actor Shilpa Shetty and her businessman-husband Raj Kundra, accused in a ₹60 crore cheating and fraud case, have approached the Bombay High Court seeking suspension of the Look Out Circular issued against them.

The couple has requested permission to travel abroad between October 2025 and January 2026.

Hearing Before High Court Bench

The plea came up for hearing on Wednesday before a Bench comprising Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad. The court directed the concerned authorities to file their reply affidavits before proceeding further.

The case stems from a complaint lodged by businessman Deepak Kothari. He alleged that between 2015 and 2023, Shetty and Kundra persuaded him to invest ₹60 crore in their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt. Ltd. However, according to the complaint, the funds were allegedly diverted for the couple’s personal use.

While Kundra has already appeared before the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for questioning, Shetty is yet to be summoned by investigators. It was at the request of the EOW that an LOC was issued, restricting the couple from travelling outside India.

Couple’s Defence In Court

In their petition, the couple argued that the LOC is unjustified. They pointed out that Shilpa Shetty had resigned from Best Deal TV back in September 2016 and was no longer associated with the company when the alleged transactions took place.

The petition also highlighted their professional requirements. It stated that Raj Kundra, being a businessman, needs to travel overseas frequently for work, while Shetty, as an actor, has international film and professional commitments.

“The applicants have a fundamental right to carry on their business and/or profession, and denying such opportunities [to travel abroad] would amount to a violation of their fundamental rights,” the plea contended.
