Telangna High Court Permits BJP to Hold Dharna in Hyderabad

The Telangana High Court granted permission to the BJP  to hold a dharna in Hyderabad today on Tuesday, despite the police initially denying permission. The court reviewed the petition filed by the BJP, which sought permission to stage the dharna at the designated Dharna Chowk. The BJP claimed that the state government had shown a lackadaisical attitude in allotting double-bedroom houses.

Rachana Reddy, the spokesperson for BJP, stated that Kishan Reddy, the recently appointed BJP state president, intended to conduct a field inspection at Batasingaram, where several double-bedroom houses were under construction. However, Kishan Reddy was detained, and several other BJP leaders were put under house arrest.

The BJP had applied for permission to hold a peaceful dharna against the state government’s lackadaisical approach to allotting double-bedroom houses, first on July 14, and then again on July 20. However, no clarification was provided in response to their applications. Reddy expressed that they did not receive any information from law enforcement authorities, such as the Commissioner of Police or Assistant Commissioner of Police. During the court hearing, the authorities unreasonably denied the permission, citing illogical reasons like traffic congestion.

The high court overturned the denial, stating that it lacked proper consideration and that articles 19 1a & b could not be overridden. It clarified that law enforcement has the power to regulate dharnas or processions, but they cannot outright reject them. As a result, the high court pleased the BJP by granting permission to conduct the dharna at Dharna Chowk on the following day, highlighting the alleged lackadaisical approach of the state government in allotting 2 BHK houses.
