TV Actor Shweta Tiwari Withdraws Plea In Bombay HC After Police Close Forgery Probe

Television actor Shweta Tiwari recently withdrew her petition before the Bombay High Court seeking to quash a forgery case against her, after the police submitted an A-summary report.

The report, filed by the Bandra-Kurla Complex Police, concluded that the case lacked sufficient evidence, leading to the closure of the investigation.

The bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and Neela Gokhale on Dec 18, aaccepted the police’s report and allowed Tiwari to withdraw her plea. The case dates back to March 2021, when Tiwari’s ex-husband, Abhinav Kohli, accused her of forging his signature on a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) in 2017 to obtain a visa for their son’s travel to the UK. Kohli later alerted the British consulate, claiming he had never issued any such NOC, resulting in the visa being canceled.

Following the registration of the FIR, Tiwari approached the Bombay High Court to have the case quashed. In her petition, she argued that the FIR, filed years after the alleged incident, was the result of personal conflicts between the couple. She pointed out that in 2018, with Kohli’s consent, they had traveled to the UK for their son’s physiotherapy treatment, and the NOC was issued by Kohli at that time.

Tiwari further argued that the FIR was filed only after their relationship had deteriorated further, amidst fears that she might attempt to take their son abroad again. The actor’s stance was that the accusations were a product of ongoing disputes and should not lead to legal action.

In a recent turn of events, the Bandra-Kurla Complex Police submitted an A-summary report, closing the investigation due to a lack of evidence to support the claims. This development led to the withdrawal of Tiwari’s petition in the High Court. Tiwari and Kohli had divorced in 2019 following a domestic violence complaint filed by Tiwari against him.

With the case now closed, Tiwari’s legal battles appear to have come to an end, though the fallout from their tumultuous relationship continues to cast a shadow on both parties.
