The Uttarakhand High Court has issued a stay on the Revenue Department’s notification regarding the construction of a ‘Sainya Dham’ in Dehradun.

The court, responding to a petition, alleged that the memorial for fallen soldiers was being erected on private land without requisite permissions or compensation to the landowners. Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari, presiding over a single bench, stayed the August 21, 2023 notification and directed the government to furnish its response.

The petition, filed by Dehradun resident Seema Kanojia, asserted that the Sainya Dham, being developed by the Sainik Welfare and Rehabilitation Board, encroached upon private land in Guniyal village along Mussoorie road. It highlighted the board’s failure to obtain landowners’ consent or provide compensation.

The court scheduled the next hearing for June 18 to further address the issue. Former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had ceremonially inaugurated the Sainya Dham by laying its foundation stone on January 23, 2021.
