Uttarkashi Floods: U’khand HC Deploys Dedicated Team To Prepare Report On Facilities For Disaster Victims

Following the devastating flash floods triggered by a cloudburst in Uttarkashi’s high-altitude regions, the Uttarakhand High Court on Tuesday stepped in with a judicially backed response.

Civil Judge Sachin Kumar announced that a multi-disciplinary team, including doctors and disaster response personnel, will be sent to the affected areas to assess relief efforts and ensure victims are receiving adequate support.

“The Supreme Court has a department called NALSA for helping victims of such disasters. On the directions of the Nainital High Court, our District Legal Services Authority has been instructed to deploy our dedicated team, which includes doctors, NDRF, SDRF personnel, advocates, and physicians,” said Judge Kumar.

Relief Team To Inspect Conditions, Report To High Court

The team’s mission is to conduct a thorough on-site review of the current aid being provided — food, medical care, shelter, and other essentials. Based on their findings, a report will be submitted to the High Court to help shape further judicial and administrative action.

“They will visit the site and prepare a report on the facilities the victims are currently receiving, including whether they are getting enough food and addressing their other basic needs,” he said.

“We will also try to implement schemes that will assist them in their compensation and rehabilitation,” he added.

Police Top Brass Evaluates Ongoing Relief Operations

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand’s Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth conducted a detailed review of relief and rescue efforts already underway in the flood-hit areas of Dharali and Harsil. The operations are being carried out on the directives of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

At a high-level meeting in Dehradun, senior police officials from the SDRF, Fire Services, PAC, and Telecom divisions gathered to strategize the next steps in the aftermath of the disaster.

August 5 Cloudburst Leaves Trail Of Destruction

The emergency response was launched after a cloudburst on August 5 in Kheer Gad near Harsil, which triggered a massive mudslide and unleashed torrents of water and debris across Dharali village. The force of the floods swept away multiple homes and left local communities reeling.

With rescue efforts still in motion and damage assessments ongoing, the combined effort of legal bodies, disaster forces, and law enforcement is now focused on providing immediate relief and planning long-term rehabilitation.
