Acid Attack In America: Minor Girl Charged With Assault, Later Released On $10,000 Bond

A 12-year-old girl has been recently charged with assault in connection to an acid attack on another girl at a Detroit playground.

The incident occurred earlier this month, causing severe burns to the victim. The accused girl is scheduled to appear in court, facing charges of assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm and felonious assault.

The identity of the 12-year-old girl has not been disclosed, and her family has chosen to remain anonymous. She was released on a $10,000 bond with a tether. The case will be heard in the Juvenile Referee Department of the court, but it is unclear if the girl’s family has obtained legal representation.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy expressed deep concern over the incident, describing the allegations as “extremely troubling.” Worthy emphasized the long-lasting effects impulsive decisions can have on others and stated that there is no justification for such acts of violence.

According to the victim’s family, 11-year-old Deaira Summers, the acid attack took place on July 9 while she was playing with her cousins at Vernor Elementary School.
The incident stemmed from an argument involving the 12-year-old girl and Deaira’s cousin.

Deaira’s family described the attack as a traumatic event that will leave physical and emotional scars. After the argument, Deaira and her siblings initially left the park but she returned to retrieve her purse and was subsequently targeted with acid.

This resulted in 2nd and 3rd-degree burns on her back, arms, and legs.

Deaira received treatment for her injuries in the burn unit of a hospital, spending four days undergoing medical care. In an interview, Deaira shared the terrifying moment when an unknown liquid was thrown at her. Initially, it didn’t hurt, but it quickly started to burn and seep through her clothing.

The Detroit Police Department has not provided further information or responded to inquiries regarding the incident.

The acid attack on the 11-year-old girl in Detroit has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the safety of children in public spaces. Such acts of violence cause physical harm and inflict lasting emotional trauma on the victims. It is imperative for authorities to address and prevent such incidents to ensure the well-being and security of all community members.
