Barrister Saif, the Information Adviser for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), has accused the Sharif family of engaging in financial misconduct, particularly in relation to tax evasion.

In a recent statement, Saif pointed out that Hasan Nawaz, the son of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has been officially listed as a tax defaulter in the United Kingdom. He added, “The Sharif family is now being exposed internationally for tax evasion.”

Barrister Saif criticized how certain political figures, particularly from the Sharif family, have damaged Pakistan’s reputation on the world stage. He contrasted their behavior with that of Pakistanis working abroad, who, according to him, bring positive recognition to the country. He remarked, “While Imran Khan made Pakistan proud internationally, the Sharifs have only been a source of disgrace.”

Tax Evasion In A Strictly Regulated System

Saif highlighted the ongoing tax evasion practices of the Sharif family, despite being in the UK, which has some of the strictest financial regulations. He alleged that while businesses in Pakistan thrive on unethical financial practices, legitimate investors face significant barriers. “Half of the family is based in London, and the other half remains in Pakistan, yet both continue engaging in tax evasion. This is how their wealth continues to grow while others are left struggling,” Saif stated.

Accusations Of Money Laundering

Expanding on his allegations, Barrister Saif accused the Sharif family of laundering money overseas. He pointed out that despite ruling Pakistan for years, their wealth has primarily been accumulating abroad, far from the country they once governed. “Their continued pattern of looting the national treasury and laundering money overseas remains unchanged,” Saif remarked, accusing the family of exploiting their political influence for financial gain.

Hassan Nawaz’s Tax Defaulter Status

In a significant update, the UK tax authorities recently declared Hassan Nawaz a tax defaulter, imposing a fine of £5.2 million. According to official reports, Hassan Nawaz failed to pay approximately £9.4 million in taxes between 2015 & 2016. This announcement further intensifies the family’s legal and financial troubles abroad, adding to their growing list of international issues.

In a separate legal matter, the London High Court ruled Hassan Nawaz bankrupt in 2023, following a tax case filed by the UK’s Tax and Revenue Department. The bankruptcy ruling, tied to Case No. 694 of 2023, marks another setback for the Sharif family in their legal struggles abroad, adding another layer of complexity to their ongoing financial and legal disputes.

Barrister Saif’s Closing Remarks

In conclusion, Barrister Saif criticized the current political elite, stating that corrupt individuals could never contribute to true national unity. “The nation is fed up with this corrupt elite. As long as they remain in power, the idea of national unity will remain a distant dream,” he said. His remarks reflect the growing public discontent surrounding the Sharif family’s involvement in financial controversies and their ongoing political influence in Pakistan.

With these latest developments, including the tax defaulter status and bankruptcy ruling against Hassan Nawaz, the Sharif family faces increasing legal pressure both in the UK and at home. These unfolding issues continue to have a significant impact on the political landscape in Pakistan, fueling further debates on corruption and accountability in the country’s leadership.
