Local court of Islamabad have recently dismissed nine petitions against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, including a demand for bail in connection with the FIR registered against him over violent protests.
The Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad rejected 3 bail petitions, and Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Sohail has dismissed 6 petitions seeking pre-arrest bail for Khan.
The Federal Investigation Agency filed cases against Khan for his involvement in FIRs at Khanna and Barakhau police stations.
According to reports, the judge stated that Imran Khan’s bail can’t be extended in light of the Supreme Court’s decision. The PTI leader was implicated in 6 cases at Ramanah, Kohsar, Tarnol, and Secretariat police stations in the federal capital.
Justice Mohammad Sohail announced the verdict, suggesting that it would be appropriate for the former Prime Minister, who was removed from power through a parliamentary vote last year, to be involved in the investigation of the cases.
However, according to media, AD&SJ Sohail extended the interim bail of Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, until September 7 in connection with the case involving fake receipts of the Toshakhana.
In the aftermath of the arrest of the PTI leader in a corruption case on May 9 this year, violent protests erupted, and party supporters attacked defense and military establishments in various parts of the country. Hundreds of PTI activists and leaders were arrested for alleged involvement in the riots, while authorities accused the ex-PM of being the mastermind behind the violent protests.
Meanwhile, the ousted Prime Minister was once again placed behind bars at the beginning of this month after an Islamabad trial court sentenced him to 3 years in prison and imposed a fine of 100,000 rupees for concealing the income from Toshakhana.
Subsequently, the Election Commission of Pakistan declared him disqualified for 5 years from holding public office after being found guilty.
In light of the aforementioned developments, it remains important to uphold the rule of law and ensure that legal processes are carried out fairly and justly.
