A Rawalpindi accountability court has recently issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, in connection with a corruption case linked to the Al-Qadir University Trust involving GBP 190 million.
The warrants were issued by Judge Nasir Javed Rana following an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving Imran Khan and his family.
Imran Khan was also presented before the court in relation to the case. Despite the new arrest warrants, both Khan and his wife had previously been granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in connection with the National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement regarding the GBP 190 million.
The IHC had instructed authorities to release Khan on a surety bond of PKR 1 million.
In a separate development, Bushra Bibi released a video message urging PTI supporters to join a planned protest on November 24, calling it a “final or do-or-die” rally. She accused the government of spreading negative propaganda against her family after their visit to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, and denied claims that Imran Khan was a “Jewish agent.”
The National Accountability Bureau is investigating allegations that the Al-Qadir University Trust improperly acquired hundreds of acres of land, causing a loss of GBP 190 million to the national treasury.
NAB claims that Imran Khan and others misallocated PKR 50 billion (approximately GBP 190 million), which had been sent by the UK’s NCA to the Pakistani government. A corruption reference involving Khan, Bushra Bibi, and six other individuals was filed on December 26, 2019.
