The European Commission recently declared that Google “abused its dominant positions” in the online advertising market.
As a measure to foster fair competition, the commission has put forth a recommendation for Google to divest a portion of its ad services.
This assessment follows a two-year anti-trust investigation. Google has been given the opportunity to respond to this preliminary finding, after which a final decision will be made.
If the commission upholds its stance, Google could face a fine of up to 10% of its annual global revenues.
