Imran Khan’s Wife Approaches Lahore HC Against Arrest In 3rd Case Of Toshakhana

Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has approached the Lahore High Court challenging her arrest in a new Toshakhana case.

The petition, filed through Advocate Sardar Latif Khosa, claims that both Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan had been granted bail in their previous Toshakhana case but were re-arrested in a new case with ill intentions.

Bushra Bibi’s petition alleges that she was subjected to assault and humiliation by female officials during her arrest at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. It also argues that her arrest in this third Toshakhana case was carried out without a warrant from the NAB chairman and constitutes political victimization. She has requested the court to take action against the jail superintendent and the female officials involved and to declare her latest arrest illegal.

Imran Khan has also filed a petition with the Lahore High Court seeking details of the cases against him. The former Prime Minister, who governed Pakistan from 2018 to 2022, has been held in Adiala Jail since August 2023 on charges related to Toshakhana, a cypher case, and an unlawful marriage case. His wife has been detained for several months as well.

On July 29, an accountability court in Rawalpindi extended the physical remand of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi by 10 days in the Toshakhana case. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented the couple before the court following the expiration of their previous seven-day remand and provided a progress report on the new case.

During the hearing, NAB Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi and investigative deputy director Mohsin Haroon were present, while defense lawyer Salman Safdar opposed the remand extension. An altercation occurred between Imran Khan and the NAB prosecutor, with Khan arguing that his wife had no involvement with Toshakhana and was unfairly targeted. He criticized the NAB officials, accusing them of corruption.

In response, the NAB prosecutor challenged Khan to purchase a dinner and tea set worth PKR 30,000 from Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazar, referring to state gifts received by Khan from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The court adjourned the proceedings until August 8 and instructed the NAB team to present both Imran and Bushra Bibi at the next hearing.
