“Islamabad Turned To Container City” City HC

Islamabad High Court

The Islamabad High Court has criticized the city for becoming a ‘container city’ due to frequent road blockages. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq suggested that a show cause notice might be issued to the Chief Commissioner if the situation doesn’t improve.

At a contempt hearing involving Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Farooq highlighted the daily suffering of commuters, who face severe traffic delays due to blocked access to Constitution Avenue. He described the city as being “closed” with containers everywhere and questioned why main roads were being blocked repeatedly.

Farooq warned that if the Chief Commissioner does not address the issue, he will issue summons. PTI’s counsel, Shoaib Shaheen, argued that the cancellation of a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) for a public meeting was delayed despite a court undertaking. The Advocate General cited law and order concerns for the cancellation but acknowledged the frustration of the court.

Farooq insisted that timely notifications of security threats are necessary and assured PTI that the NOC for their September 10 event would not be withdrawn.
