Pakistan’s anti-terrorism court on Monday has placed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan under a 14-days of judicial remand in connection with a case at the New Town Police Station.
Khan, currently held at Adiala Jail, was arrested in relation to this case following his bail in the Toshakhana case.
Amjad Ali Shah (judge), approved Khan’s remand in the New Town case and seven other cases related to allegations of vandalism. This marks another development in the series of legal challenges Khan faces. His arrest in multiple cases comes amid political unrest and legal proceedings against him.
The PTI political committee issued a statement on Sunday following a crucial meeting, expressing serious concerns over Khan’s health and safety. The committee highlighted growing public anxiety regarding his condition and called for immediate restoration of access to his family, legal team, and party officials.
They also called for transparent updates on Khan’s health and treatment.
Additionally, the committee urged the federal and Punjab governments, as well as prison authorities, to provide frequent updates on his status. They also appealed to the judiciary to safeguard Khan’s fundamental rights and ensure robust security measures while in custody.
The statement stressed the accountability of the Prime Minister, Punjab Chief Minister, and relevant authorities for any failure to protect Khan’s safety.
Earlier, Adiala Jail authorities reassured the public that Imran Khan was in good health, despite earlier reports suggesting he might be moved to another location.
Khan remains in physical remand until December 2, with the case stemming from his involvement in the September 28 protest.
