Pakistan: Accountability Court Extends Remand Of PTI Chairman Chaudhry Parvez Elahi Till Sep 2

The Accountability Court in Lahore, Pakistan, has recently extended the physical remand of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), until September 2nd.

Elahi appeared before the accountability court to after the completion of his physical remand. In the court, the former Chief Minister of Punjab stated that he is 77 years old and suffering from heart ailments. He mentioned that he is not allowed to meet his family members or undergo therapy due to his health condition.

Meanwhile, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor requested the court for a 14-day physical remand to investigate allegations of corruption related to 200 development projects in Mandi Bahauddin and Gujarat. The court extended Parvez Elahi’s physical custody and ordered agency to produce Elahi in court on September 2nd.

Previously on August 21st, the Lahore Accountability Court extended Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s physical remand until August 29th. The remand was extended in relation to cases of corruption associated with certain development projects.

Officials from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) presented Elahi before Justice Zubair Shahid Kiyani of the accountability court, who was overseeing corruption cases related to the former Chief Minister of Punjab. Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s lawyer, Amjad Parvez, informed the court that despite the Supreme Court’s order to decide on Parvez Elahi’s bail, the case has not been heard yet. Consequently, he requested the postponement of the hearing.

During the court session, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi stated that he is experiencing swollen feet and significant discomfort in his back. He requested permission from the court to consult his doctor for medical care. In addition, the opposing lawyer, Amjad Parvez, mentioned that two meetings with Parvez Elahi’s family have been arranged with proper legal authorization.

The court requested a medical report in the next session and extended Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s remand until August 29th after hearing the arguments from the lawyers.
