Pakistani Authorities Under Fire As Lawyers Threaten Indefinite Boycott Over Law & Order Breakdown

Lawyers in Pakistan’s Larkana division have issued a strong ultimatum to the government, warning of a complete boycott of court proceedings and a ban on police entry into court premises if immediate steps are not taken to restore law & order.

The demand also includes the removal of Larkana DIG Nasir Aftab Pathan from his post.

Lawyers’ Convention Voices Unified Protest

The announcement came during a high-level lawyers’ convention held at the District Bar Association (DBA) bar room, attended by legal professionals from across the Larkana division, including representatives from the Sindh Bar Council.

The gathering highlighted growing frustration within the legal community over rising incidents of crime—ranging from theft and robbery to raids and murder—across all 5 districts of the division.

DBA President Advocate Muhammad Ismail Abro, Vice President Javed Baloch, and senior lawyers, including Abdul Sattar Helio and Inayatullah Morio, addressed the convention, condemning what they described as the failure of local law enforcement.

Court Boycott Starts Today

According to the DBA’s resolution, lawyers across the division will begin boycotting court proceedings from Wednesday (today). Additionally, a ban will be enforced on police officers entering court premises until their demands are addressed.

The legal fraternity has given the Larkana DIG a two-day deadline to restore security across the region. Failing that, a sit-in protest will be launched outside his office, which they vowed would continue “indefinitely” until his transfer is ordered.

Earlier Dialogue With DIG Deemed ‘Unsatisfactory’

Lawyers revealed that a delegation had earlier met DIG Nasir Aftab Pathan to voice their concerns directly. However, they described his response as “unsatisfactory,” leading to the current escalation. The legal community now plans to formally reach out to the High Court Bar Association for support in what they describe as a wider movement to ensure public safety.

United Legal Front

The convention was marked by unity among the legal leadership, with all five bar presidents of the Larkana division and 4 members of the Sindh Bar Council in attendance. They unanimously agreed to intensify their campaign if the authorities fail to act.

The lawyers’ stern warning underscores the growing tensions between the legal community and law enforcement in the region, with public safety and institutional accountability now firmly in the spotlight.
