‘Jai Shri Ram’ Slogans In Mosque Case: SC Seeks Karnataka Govt Response

The Supreme Court on Monday sought Karnataka government’s response over the case related to the shouting of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ inside a mosque.

The top court bench of Justice Pankaj Mithal and Sandeep Mehta asked whether CCTV or any other evidence was checked before ascertaining the identity of the accused.

Senior Advocate Devadatt Kamath for complainants stated that the complaint and FIR had been dismissed.

Urging the court to review the situation, he emphasized that the act was done with the intention of spreading hatred in a religious place.

The Supreme Court has not issue any notice in the case and instructed that the Karnataka government provide the petitioner’s request.

The apex court listed the matter for hearing again in 2 weeks.

What is the Case?

The case revolves around two residents of Dakshin Kannada district, Keerthan Kumar and Sachin Kumar, who allegedly entered the Badnya Jumma Masjid last year and raised the slogan.

On September 13, the Karnataka High Court ruled that shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ inside a mosque does not constitute the offence of ‘outraging religious feelings.’

An appeal was filed against this ruling in the Supreme Court.
