In a defamation case against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and former CM Arvind Kejriwal, the Supreme Court on Tuesday has granted 6 weeks additional time to BJP leader Rajeev Babber, the complainant, to file his response.
Earlier, in September 2024, the top court had stayed the proceedings in the case.
What is the Case?
Babbar filed the defamation case against Kejriwal and other AAP leaders in 2018 after they allegedly commented that voters’ names were deleted from the Delhi electoral rolls.
It was alleged that the AAP leaders made public statements accusing the BJP of being responsible for the large-scale deletion of voter names.
Babber argued that allegations were intended to damage the BJP’s reputation by targeting specific voter groups, including the Bania, Poorvanchali, and Muslim communities.
Earlier, the trial court had observed that the allegations made by Kejriwal and others targeted the BJP and were prima facie defamatory.
