Russian Writer Imprisoned To 8 Years For Criticizing Ukraine War

The Moscow court has recently sentenced Russian writer Dmitry Glukhovsky to 8 years of imprisonment on charges of deliberately spreading misleading information about the government and armed forces concerning the Ukraine war.

At the time of the sentencing, Dmitry Glukhovsky was not present in the court.

In Russia, Dmitry Glukhovsky is well-known for his renowned series “Metro 2033,” which falls under the science fiction genre. He enjoys a considerable fanbase.

Glukhovsky was subjected to legal action for sharing texts and videos on social media, where he accused Russian soldiers of committing offenses in Ukraine. These allegations were considered fraudulent by Russian prosecutors. Glukhovsky has been residing outside Russia for a significant period of time.

In April 2022, he penned his views that the war initiated by Putin in Ukraine was progressively becoming more horrifying and inhumane each day. He also mentioned that the pretexts under which the war was started seemed increasingly insignificant and false.

Dmitry Glukhovsky is a prominent Russian journalist and author, most known for his widely popular post-apocalyptic novel “Metro 2033” and its subsequent sequels.

He has been openly critical of the Kremlin and was designated a “foreign agent” in October 2022.
