Sean “Diddy” Combs initiated a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Courtney Burgess, attorney Ariel Mitchell, and Nexstar Media Group, the parent company of NewsNation.

The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of New York, accuses the defendants of fabricating and amplifying false allegations for financial gain.

Combs’ attorneys argue that the defendants deliberately spread baseless claims that have caused him significant economic and reputational harm, while also jeopardizing his right to a fair trial. The lawsuit also accuses NewsNation of broadcasting the allegations without conducting proper fact-checking or reaching out to Combs’ representatives for comment.

Allegations and Lawsuit Details

The lawsuit centers around claims made by Burgess, who allegedly asserted that she possessed videos of Combs involved in sexual assaults against celebrities and minors. These allegations were reportedly repeated by Burgess and Mitchell to various media outlets, including NewsNation.

Combs’ legal team maintains that no such videos exist and alleges that the claims were either knowingly false or made with reckless disregard for the truth.

The lawsuit highlights statements made during a September NewsNation broadcast, in which Mitchell claimed that tapes of Combs in compromising situations were being circulated in Hollywood. During the broadcast, a NewsNation host allegedly implied the existence of hidden cameras, despite the lack of evidence.

Financial Motives Alleged

The lawsuit accuses Burgess and Mitchell of profiting from the false allegations. It claims Burgess has gained financially from promoting a “fake Kim Porter memoir,” while Mitchell has leveraged the allegations to increase her media presence. NewsNation is also accused of using the controversy to boost viewership by airing sensational claims without proper verification.

Broader Context

The legal action comes as Combs awaits trial in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and prostitution-related offenses. Combs has denied all allegations against him.

According to the lawsuit, the allegations have not only damaged Combs’ reputation but also undermined his business interests and public image. His legal team stated, “Defendants made these false and defamatory statements in bad faith, as part of a deliberate effort to damage Mr. Combs’s reputation, undermine his business, and deprive him of a fair trial.”
