Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Monday granted bail to the human rights lawyer and daughter of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shireen Mazari, Imaan Mazari in a sedition case.
The bail was granted by ATC Judge Abu Al-Hasanat Zul-Qarnain against the surety bonds of Rs 30,000.
According to media, the court also read the speech script given by Iman Mazari at a rally.
During the hearing, the court reviewed the speech script delivered by Imaan Mazari at a rally. However, the prosecution raised concerns, stating that a forensic examination of the speech was necessary.
This decision follows Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir’s arrest by Islamabad Police for investigation, which occurred shortly after she posted on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly known as ‘Twitter’) that unidentified individuals were breaking into her house.
Islamabad Police informed about the development on ‘X’ and stated, “Islamabad Capital Police has arrested Ali Wazir and Iman Mazari. Both the accused were wanted by the Islamabad Police for investigation. All action will be taken in accordance with law. The news issued by the Public Relations Department of Islamabad Capital Police should be accepted as correct. No one is authorized to give a statement from a police station.”
Shireen Mazari, a former PTI leader and federal minister, alleged that her daughter was “abducted” from their residence in an overnight raid. She condemned the incident, describing it as an act of “abduction” and “state fascism.” She claimed that law enforcement personnel and plainclothes individuals forcibly entered her house by breaking down the front door.
Strongly condemning the incident, Mazari termed it an act of “abduction” and “state fascism”. She alleged that the personnel barged into her house by breaking down the front door.
During the operation, it was reported that the personnel not only apprehended Imaan but also confiscated security cameras, her laptop, and phone.
Notably, Shireen Mazari resigned from PTI and politics after the May 9 violence following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
She has been arrested multiple times in connection with the incidents that took place on May 9. After the court ordered her release, she was reportedly taken away in a vehicle without a number plate. She had been presented in court by the police in a case related to inciting party supporters in Kharian on May 9.
